Types of IELTS Tests

Academic Module

FOR WHOM IT IS: For the students who want to study and have their future at universities or higher education institutions in English Speaking Countries.

IELTS General Training

FOR WHOM IT IS: The candidates who are planning to work, migrate, or do non-academic training in English Speaking Countries.

Depending upon what you want to pursue in the future, you can choose to take either IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training test on Paper or Computer at an Official test centre.

The test takers may also take the IELTS Test Online, depending upon where they live.

Skill:Listening
Time:30 Minutes
Number of Questions/Tasks:4 Sections, 40 Questions
Description:You listen to a range of recordings, including monologues and conversations.
Purpose:Tests your ability to understand main ideas, specific details, and opinions.
Skill:Reading
Time:60 Minutes
Number of Questions/Tasks:3 Sections, 40 Questions
Description:Texts range from descriptive to argumentative, taken from books, newspapers, and magazines.
Purpose:Assesses your ability to answer multiple-choice, matching, and short-answer questions.
Skill:Writing
Time:60 Minutes
Number of Questions/Tasks:2 Tasks
Description:Task 1: Describe a graph, chart, or diagram (Academic) or write a letter (General Training). Task 2: Write an essay.
Purpose:Evaluates your ability to present an argument with proper structure and vocabulary.
Skill:Speaking
Time:11-14 Minutes
Number of Questions/Tasks:3 Parts
Description:Part 1: General questions about yourself. Part 2: Talk for 1-2 minutes on a given prompt. Part 3: Discussion with the examiner.
Purpose:Measures fluency, clarity, and coherence in spoken English.
Note: Each section is scored individually, and the overall band score is the average of all four sections.
